Biography

Born in 1945 in Esher, Surrey, England, David Nash now lives and works in Blaenau Ffestiniog, North Wales. He was educated at the Kingston College of Art in Surrey from 1963 to 1967 and at the Chelsea School of Art in London in 1969-70. He was a resident artist at the California College of Arts and Crafts in 1998 and in 1999 he received an Honorary Doctorate of Fine Art and Design from the University of Kingston. Nash has shown work at the Guggenheim Museum in New York, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago, and the Royal Academy in London among others. His work is included in more than 50 public collections around the world including the Guggenheim Museum, New York; the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; the Tate Gallery, London; the Walker Art Center; and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles. This would be the second work by Nash to enter SJMA’s permanent collection. (SJMA Collections Committee, 2004)
